London Gatwick airport is the second largest airport and the 2nd busiest airport in Great Britain after London Heathrow Airport. Although listed as the 22nd busiest airport world wide, Gatwick is the 7th busiest world wide in terms of international passengers.
Located 28 miles south of London in Crawley, West Sussex; London Gatwick Airport has been called the world’s busiest single runway airport – although there is a standby runway that is used when the main runway is being repaired
Gatwick airport only has 2 terminals, North and South, but still manages flights to over 200 destinations. With 263,363 flights in and out of Gatwick annually and a pass through of 34 million passengers, Gatwick broke the 35 million passenger barrier for the 1st time ever in 2007.
In recent years, Gatwick has moved away from the sun and sand image that it had gained in earlier years from the package tours that operated there. Now London Gatwick Airport boasts a larger executive passenger group using its facilities.
