London Stansted Airport - STN
London Stansted Airport is Great Britain’s 3rd busiest airport after London Heathrow Airport and London Gatwick Airport. Located in the county of Essex, Stansted is approximately 30 miles northeast of London and 2 miles from Bishop Stortford. Stansted Airport is the hub for a number of European low cost carriers. There has been an increase in passenger numbers coming through the airport since 1997 and peaked at 24 million in the 12 months preceding October 2007.
London Stansted Airport has just one main passenger terminal plus a private aircraft terminal and a cargo station. There are 3 passenger satellites where the departure gates are located. Two connect via an air bridge to the main terminal while the other is connected by the Stansted airport transit system people mover, (a fast moving rail system).
Inside the terminal, there are several facilities including bureaux de change, luggage services, shops, restaurants and bars. There is also internet access. Car hire and taxis can also be arranged from within the terminal building. Car and driver services from Abbey Executive Cars are available by prearrangement to pick you up and take you to your destination.
As with all travel to and from airports, Stansted is no different. If you are unsure of your bearings or are in a hurry to get to a destination, you may not want to navigate through the rush of commuters which can be, at the very least, stressful.
By using a prearranged car and driver service, you can beat the crowd, get to your destination and remain relaxed.
Regular commuters will use the trains that arrive and depart from a railway station below Stansted Airport’s terminal building. The train station serves Cambridge, Leicester and the midlands and trains run every hour. Journey time by train to London’s Liverpool Street station is 45 – 60 minutes.
Commuters will sometimes use the bus and coach services which run from Stansted to London’s Stratford, Victoria coach station, Liverpool Street station and Golders Green. Buses and coaches are a cheaper alternative but take almost twice as long. There is a scheduled but infrequent bus service between Stansted and Oxford with a journey time of about 3 hours. There is also an hourly service to Cambridge.
Travel to Stansted by road will be along the M11 from London and Cambridge or the A120 from Colchester and Harwich. The long term car park is located a mile from the terminal where passengers must take the courtesy bus to the terminal, passengers should add an extra 20 minutes to their commute time if they take this option.
